Flood Warning For Leamington, Watch For Lakeshore, Tecumseh, Windsor

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for the shoreline of Leamington, and a flood watch for Lakeshore, Tecumseh and East Windsor.

The warning in Leamington stretches from Point Pelee National Park to Wheatley Harbour.

There is already flooding in the Cotterie Park Rd. area of Leamington. The water is covering roads and private properties.

It says with an east-northeasterly wind blowing and gusts of up to 60 km/h, flooding, shoreline erosion, and damaging waves are possible elsewhere in the affected area too.

The winds are also increasing the likelihood of damage along the shore of Lake St. Clair in Lakeshore, and Tecumseh. Water levels could rise on the Detroit River affecting eastern Windsor.

Residents are asked to avoid the affected area. Those who have to go through flooded areas are advised to use extreme caution when traveling through floodwater. Flowing water, standing water, and waves that reach above the break walls can be very dangerous.

The wind is not expected to let up until Thursday, so the warning and the watch are in effect until 9am October 13.
