Windsor University Faculty Ratify New Contract

Faculty at the University of Windsor have voted 93% in favour of a new four year contract.

The deal, which was reached between the Windsor University Faculty Association (WUFA) and administration on September 1, was ratified on Tuesday.

“Through the hard work of its negotiating team, WUFA was able to score real successes in each of our priority areas,” said WUFA President Jeff Noonan in a news release. “No round of bargaining ever achieves all of the union’s goals, but this is a very good deal for our members and the University.”

The key elements of the new contract include:

Salary increases of 1.6%, 1.6%, 1.75% and 2% A 1250$ increase to each full time member’s base salary in the first year of the deal

  • New language outlining clearer procedures for addressing harassment complaints
  • Flexibility in workload for department heads
  • Provisions for critically ill child care leave
  • Improvements to timelines for sessional appointments and preferred applicant status
  • The creation of a professional development fund for sessional members
According to WUFA, this is the first time since 2004 that faculty association has completed a round of bargaining with the administration without the need to take a strike vote.  It is also the first time since 2001 that a tentative agreement was reached before the start of the fall semester.
