Greater Essex County ETFO President Re-elected Provincial Executive

The president of the Greater Essex County chapter has been re-elected to the executive council of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

Adelina Cecchin has served on the executive since 2009 and was returned to the position during a vote at the union's annual conference in Toronto on Wednesday.  Her term is until 2019.

Greater Essex local First Vice-President Mario Spagnuolo was also elected to the provincial executive.

Sam Hammond won another term as president of the union.

Before 800 delegates, Cecchin urged members to work together to effect change.

"We need to work together like never before to strengthen and expand our union movement, and powerfully organize with community partners," she said. "Contemplating the future of bargaining, regressive government policies and the need to build local capacity in partnership with provincial ETFO must be top of mind for all of us."

Cecchin started her teaching career in 1990 teaching primarily French immersion and French as a second language.

In addition to her role as local president, she has been a school stewart and executive member serving on various committees including the human rights committee, the pension benefits adjudication committee and ten years as a member of the local bargaining team.
