Councillor Randy Voakes wants to boost tourism in beautiful downtown Essex by moving a vintage caboose to the core.
Voakes says the caboose has been sitting next to the train station too long and would be more visible in the downtown.
"People who come into our community can stop at the booth and get information about Essex and the wineries in Harrow and everything would be there," says Voakes.
The issue will come before Essex Town Council August 21.
Voakes says Essex has several nuggets that people don't know about.
"If they knew it was there like the Leamington tomato, that would be there and people could stop and find out about venues that the town offers," Voakes says.
Voakes says students could work and get community hours and the caboose would create foot traffic for businesses.
"Improve our downtown core with a flash of history and to give people an opportunity to get information about our community," says Voakes.
