New Exhibit Celebrates Region's Wine-making History

A new exhibit at the Chimczuk Museum explores the history of the wine making industry in the region.

In partnership with EPIC Wineries, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and the University of Windsor the exhibit includes artifacts and highlights stories of the wine making eras in the region.

"People think we're the new guys on the block for wine but in fact we were the first commercial winery in Canada on Pelee Island. So it's a matter of pride, it's a matter of people understanding our history," says Lynette Bain, VP of Tourism Programs at TWEPI.

The exhibit at the Chimczuk museum will be open until December 31, 2017. It provides a chronological display of wine making in the region from the geology of the soil, to the first wine makers, prohibition and the resurgence of the industry.

"Something interesting to learn is the history and the story of the people and the families who were behind this industry in the early days," says Lynette.

A speaker series will also be offered to compliment the exhibit. The speakers will highlight the science, history and current state of wine in the region.
