Beer Fundraiser Is 'Fine N' Dandy' For Cancer Society

Walkerville Brewery and Craft Heads Brewing Co. have raised $4,700 for the Canadian Cancer Society by selling a beer inspired by the fight against the disease.

Over the month of April, each brewery held a charity event called Fine N' Dandy in which proceeds went to the Candian Cancer Society.

The Fine N' Dandy project started after Jeffery Craig, a brewer from Walkerville Brewery was diagnosed with cancer late last year.

"It was just talking about beer," says Bryan Datoc, co-owner at Craft Heads.  "It was a collaborative effort... we were trying the different Fine N' Dandy recipes that we had brewed."

Each event raised over $2,000 through T-shirt sales and the sale of a new drink.

In honour of Daffodil Month at the society, the companies used dandelions in the beer.  However, Natalie Lahoud, front of house and event manager at Walkerville Brewery, says daffodils don't make a good beer.

"[Craftheads] went with the Dandelion Saison... and we [Walkerville] did a dandelion Pilsener," she says.

Theresa Blondin, the volunteer engagement coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, and Cindy Vinall, the senior manager of community offices at Canadian Cancer Society, are so proud of the two companies for coming together.

Vinall says the cheque will help many programs that the cancer society has to offer.

"It will help in our efforts in prevention, advocacy, funding, leading edge research, providing information, and support services like our Wheel of Hope transportation program right here in Windsor-Essex," she says.

There is a possibility of another Fine N' Dandy event next year. However, if you would like to help out now, there is a a 90s Adult Prom Event Friday June 23 and proceeds will go to the cancer society.
