Scratch Ticket Winner Paying For Granddaughter's Education

Just another day of picking up groceries and lottery tickets is how a Windsor woman describes the day she ended up netting a $500,000 prize.

Colleen Macinnes is a 72-year-old retiree who recently bought a winning Instant Classic Sapphire ticket at Sobeys on Amy Croft Dr. in Windsor.

As soon as she scratched the ticket and her numbers matched up, she says she ran to the nearest convenience store to see what she had won.

"When the terminal froze and the validation slip printed for $500,000, I couldn't believe what was happening. I started shaking and got very emotional," Macinnes explains.  "My kids didn't believe me until they realized I was crying tears of joy. Then I called my granddaughter and told her that her school was paid for and she didn't have to worry."

Macinnes adds that she plans to buy herself a new car with the winnings.
