Lake Levels And High Winds Prompt Flood Watch

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the next 24 hours because of elevated water levels and sustained high winds.

The authority has issued many watches this season, many related to high wind.

Environment Canada says it has been a windier season than usual but expects the wind to die down this summer.

The agency says with winds reaching gusts of up to 40km/hr; there is the possibility of flooding, shoreline erosion and damaging waves along the Lake Erie shoreline from Wheatley Harbour to Point Pelee. The risk includes the southeast shore of Pelee Island.

The authority is advising the Municipality of Leamington to monitor dykes in the southeast area.

Areas along the Detroit River could also see flooding and damaging waves because of higher lake levels.
