Developing A Plan for Black Youth

Community groups in Windsor are looking into ways they can access grant opportunities through Ontario's Black Youth Action Plan.

In March, the government announced $47-million over four years to support youth in the Greater-Toronto-Area, Hamilton, Ottawa and Windsor.

"It's because of the disproportionate rates when it comes to graduation levels, over representation in child protection services, and over representation in correctional facilities," says Michael Coteau, Minister of Child and Youth Services and Minister Responsible for Anti-Racism.

The Ministry of Child and Youth Services held multiple community engagement sessions in Windsor Tuesday to determine how the funding will be delivered.

"We're going to get organizations that are like-minded or servicing the black youth here in Windsor, Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton, and we'll have them coordinate best practices and services so they can better serve young people here in Ontario," says Coteau.

Final program details will be rolled out starting in August.
