If you are looking for something to do this Earth Day with the kids, the City of Windsor invites you to Malden Park for a free celebration.
The Earth Day event starts at 10am and goes until 3pm, and it is free. It is co-hosted by the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority.
The theme this year is EarthPLAY for Earth Day.
There will be a pop-up adventure playground, wildflower planting, nature scavenger hunt, arts and crafts and over 30 environmental exhibits.
Earth day is celebrated around the world and marks the birth of the environmental movement in 1970. Over 192 countries are taking part in celebrations this year.
According to EarthDay.org, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson is credited with starting Earth Day after witnessing the impact of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. By taking inspiration from the student anti-war movement in 1969, he sought to get environmental issues on the U.S. national agenda.
On the first Earth Day on April 20, 1970, 20-million Americans took to the streets to protest oil spills, pollution from factories and power plants, pesticides and the extinction of wildlife.
There are Earth Day events in over 192 countries this year.
