Chefs Ready To Battle For Charity

The challenge is on for chefs taking part in the 31st annual Battle of the Hor D'Oeuvres for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex.

Tickets are now on sale for the "non-gala" style event at Caesars Augustus Ballroom on May 18, 2017.

"It's like an indoor food and beverage festival so it's all about networking and interaction not about a gala sort of environment," says Hayley Morgan Executive Director with the Big Brothers Big Sisters foundation.

The event features 20 of Windsor's food and beverage establishments who battle it out for the People's Choice Award and Critic's Choice Award for the best hor d'oeuvres.

"We have a couple returning participants and we have a couple of new ones so it's really exciting to help promote local restaurants and the breweries and the wineries here in Windsor and Essex County. We make sure all of the participants use a local ingredient," says Morgan.

The event generally raises $50,000 for the foundtion. All funds raised support nine youth mentoring programs at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex. These programs currently serve 850 youth in the community.

"This is our second biggest fundraiser of the year," says Morgan. "All of the money stays right here in Windsor and it goes to support all those programs and children so it's very important to us."

Tickets are on sale now for $85 which includes a sampling from all the food and beverage participants. They are available online at www.bigbrothersbigsisterswe.ca
