Rip In Space Time And Other Local UFO Sightings

The Canadian UFO Society says there were 644 UFO sightings in Canada last year, including five in Windsor-Essex.

The society has released its annual survey including the raw data of sightings across the country. UFOlogy Research of Manitoba has been publishing the list every year since 1989.

At 11:08am on January 12, a witness in Tecumseh reported a rip in spacetime through which a pair of sunglasses, a belt and some silver items disappeared. The society says the witness was even able to take a picture of the strange phenomenon.

Just two weeks later, flashing, multi-coloured lights were spotted in the sky over Windsor, one of three sightings in 2016 in the city. The second was at 11:30pm on July 7 when a star-like object appeared. On September 9, a blue oval emerged from a cloud.

The fifth sighting in the region occurred on May 6, at 1:59am. In Kingsville, a resident saw three large cross-shaped crafts and a smaller one.

If that sounds like a lot of sightings, keep in mind Windsor does not even crack the top ten list of cities where the most UFOs are recorded. Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto top the list. London places eighth.

Just over 38% of sightings were in Quebec, although the society says the province is home to the most civilian UFO groups. Ontario had 26.3%.

Most sightings are in May, June, July and August.

Of all phenomena, only 21% are listed as probable UFO sightings. Just 1% are explained, and 4% are unexplained. The overwhelming majority, 74% are listed as having insufficient evidence.
