The Canadian Union of Public Employees says it has no choice but to go on strike after it failed to reach a tentative contract with the Canadian Hearing Society over the weekend.
In Windsor, ten workers at the society's office on Giles Blvd. E walked off the job at 10am Monday. Two employees work out of an office in Chatham. They are represented by CUPE Local 2073.
The workers provide the deaf community with everything from audiology services to American sign language interpreters.
The Windsor office is one of 24 across Ontario.
More to come.
