St. Clair Purchases Baseball Franchise

St. Clair College is launching a new franchise in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.

The league consists of 15 teams made up of some the best college baseball players from across North America. The St. Clair Green Giants will be the first Canadian franchise.

"It's high level baseball where colleges around North America send their players to continue high level training in the off-season," says Ron Seguin, St. Clair College vice president of campus development.

Seguin says the major benefit to the college will be for the sports management students who will have the opportunity to operate the team.

"To give those students real life experience was deemed very important. Young people are going to get experience managing a season ticket campaign, setting up game operations," says Seguin.

The team will play a 42 game regular season at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh starting in June. Playoffs start the second week of August.

The college's baseball team, the St. Clair Saints, continues without any changes. Seguin says at least three to four players from the Saints will be a part of the Green Giants team every year.
