Expropriation For Cabana Rd. Widening

The City of Windsor is beginning the process of expropriating parcels of land along Cabana Rd.

There are about six to seven parcels needed for the Cabana Rd. and Division Rd. corridor improvements. The first section to be completed will be between Provincial Rd. and Howard Ave.

"It's very customary in terms of the process to have to take some property, just slivers of land in order to do the road widening," says Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The city is still hoping to negotiate with most of the land owners to buy the property at a reasonable rate. Some property owners have already agreed to sell piece of their property while at least one has requested a hearing of necessity.

Dilkens believes there is no argument against the widening of Cabana Rd.

"It's going to happen and that's why we'd prefer to just be able to negotiate those slivers of frontage of land that we need from six or seven households and do it in an amicable way in a willing buyer, willing selling model," says Dilkens.

The entire Cabana/Division Corridor improvement project is budgeted for $4,237,000. The funds to purchase the lands will come out of the project budget.
