CUPE Poll Shows Concern For Huron Lodge

The results of a public poll regarding Windsor's Huron Lodge Long Term Care Home are in.

CUPE 543 had recently contracted Public Polling to survey Windsor residents on whether or not caretaker jobs should be outsourced.

Over 500 people had been surveyed over the phone in December. The majority agreed in saying that the issue needs to be discussed more in-depth.

According to the poll, 62% of those surveyed believe care should be provided by an "in-house" public service, not a private American company.

“These findings show clearly that city council is heading in the wrong direction on this decision,"says Mark Vander Voort, president of CUPE Local 543 in a written statement. "[Also] that the ratepayers of Windsor will not tolerate what they see as substandard care provided by an offshore, for-profit firm."

The matter will be further discussed at Monday night's council meeting.
