The Town of LaSalle was able to shave about $130,000 from its operational budget to see a 0% tax rate increase in 2017.
However due to property assessment increases the average home owner will see an increase on their tax bills of about 3.83%.
Mayor Ken Antaya says about 2% of that increase will go into infrastructure reserves, the rest will go to the operational budget.
"What you're really looking at is 1.83% of the new assessment going into our operations for inflation and additional cost," says Antaya.
Capital budget includes $17-million of spending which includes watermain work, payments to the Lou Ramano sewer treatment plant and a new splash pad.
"It's not something that is glitzy, it's something needed by the community and ensures we maintain our commitment to our infrastructure needs," says Antaya.
He says a good portion of the money going toward reserves is being set aside for future development watermain needs.
"What we have to do is be partners with the developers we have a lot of different developers that have large pieces of land and want to develop it but see the storm drainage as an issue," says Antaya.
