Heavy Snow Triggers Call For Shovelers

The need for Snow Angels at the City of Windsor is growing, and volunteers are scarce.

Executive Director of Human Resources Vincenza Mihalo says more than 100 residents have called 311 since snow started falling last weekend, asking for snow removal assistance, but the city only has six volunteers at the moment.

"Volunteers can call 311 to register, and then someone from Human Resources will give them a call," she explains. "They do need to get police clearance, then we give them a package, and then we sign them up with residents."

With such a little amount of snow last winter, Mihalo says the city only had about 30 volunteers on hand for its Snow Angels program, but the year before that it had about 70.

Any seniors or residents with disabilities who feel they could use a hand with snow removal are also reminded to give 311 a call, to register for the Snow Angels program.
