FCA Breaks Record For Sparky's Toy Drive

Workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant have smashed a record this year with their donation to the Sparky's Toy Drive.

The workers, who have participated in the holiday toy drive for the past 14 years, collected $35,000; enough to buy toys to fill nine minivans.

"I had the privilege of being at the gates last week as the employees came in and donated, and let me tell ya' the generosity is overwhelming," says Sparky's coordinator Sean Castillo. "Chrysler is by far our biggest donation, and we count on them every year."

Last year, the drive provided toys for 3,000 children in Windsor-Essex and Castillo believes with a rise in immigration and last year's wave of refugees from Syria, there are even more kids this year in need.

"We won't have a definitive number until right before Christmas, but needless to say, it is more than 3,000 children this year," he says.

Castillo says toys for all age groups are needed, although kids aged 9 to 14 are traditionally the toughest to supply with gifts.

Donations can be dropped off at any Windsor fire station, Canadian Tire, Costco, Dollar Tree and at Devonshire Mall.
