New Optimist Library Branch Looking For Name

The Windsor Public Library is looking to hear naming proposals for its new library branch at the Optimist Community Centre.

The board approved a new policy that sets out the rules for naming sponsorships at a special meeting on Thursday.

Library CEO Kitty Pope says there have already been a few people asking about naming the new Optimist branch.

"We have a couple people who are interested, nothing definite at all, but we've got interest so we need to get our policies in place," says Pope.

Both the name of the new branch and the names of the community rooms in the branch are up for grabs right now.

"They're just: Room A, Room B, Room C; so folks may think, 'You know what, I would really like this tax season to donate to the library,'" says Pope.

Naming candidates can range from individuals to families to businesses.

"We talk about people who support the mission, vision and values of the Windsor Public Library, support reading and lifelong learning who are pillars of the community," says Pope. "Those are the folks who might be interested in putting their name on a library."

The policy is open for public information and input before its expected finalization in January. At that point Pope hopes to see a number of proposals come into library administration and eventually to the board for approval.
