Bat-Wielding Suspect Arrested After Standoff

One person is facing charges after a police standoff involving a man who was exhibiting violent behaviour and wielding a baseball bat in Windsor's east end.

The Windsor Police Service says on Saturday around 3:45pm, officers responded to an apartment building on Pillette Rd. near  Wyandotte St. E to find a male victim who had been assaulted by a man with a bat.

Police say an argument took place between a man and the male and female tenant in the one of the apartment units. The man was asked to leave but refused and continued arguing, which led to the female tenant eventually leaving the apartment. The man then threatened and attacked the male tenant with the baseball bat. The victim was able to avoid being hit by pushing the man away and locking the door to a room, where he was confined until police arrived. He was able to get past the man and escape the apartment.

After speaking with the victim, officers repeatedly tried to make contact with the man through a barricaded door, but there was no response. Officers from the Emergency Service Unit then forced open the door and made an arrest without incident.

Lowell Campbell, a 46-year-old man from Windsor, is now charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, forcible confinement and two counts of breach of probation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4305 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
