First Confirmed Case Of Influenza A

The flu season has officially arrived in Windsor-Essex.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says it has its first confirmed case of influenza A and it's using the opportunity to announce annual flu shot clinics.

The health unit doesn't say if this season's first confirmed case is a man or a woman, how old the victim is or where they live.

If you don't want to be the second confirmed case, the health unit says the flu vaccine will be available to the public starting Monday.

The vaccine is free, and you can get it at participating pharmacies, your primary health care provider and clinics.

The first clinic is next Wednesday at the health unit, 1005 Ouellette Ave. from 4pm to 8pm.

Other clinics are planned for:

* November 3 from 4pm to 8pm at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex in LaSalle.

* November 9 from 12pm to 6pm at the University of Windsor, Ambassador Auditorium in the C.A.W. Student Centre.

* November 17 from 4pm to 8pm at the WFCU Centre.

Influenza causes infection of the nose, throat and lungs. Those most at risk of complications are the elderly, young children, babies under 6-months, pregnant women and those living with a chronic condition.
