UPDATE: Attempted Murder Charge Laid In Serious Stabbing

A 28-year-old man has now been charged with attempted murder after an elderly woman was stabbed while walking along on Ottawa St. in Windsor.

The Windsor Police Service says on Wednesday around 11am, the 83-year-old woman was approached from behind on Ottawa St. near Hall Ave., and stabbed in the face repeatedly. The woman was rushed to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Richard Pillar, a 28-year-old man from Windsor, was arrested late Wednesday afternoon. He is now charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation for being in possession of a weapon.

Police say a hold and secure was put in place on Wednesday at four Windsor elementary schools as a precaution, while officers were searching for a suspect following the stabbing. The hold and secure was lifted at Giles Campus, Prince Edward, St. Angela and St. Anne elementary schools around 4:30pm that afternoon.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking for the public's help in locating a witness who was seen chasing the suspect. The witness was walking a dog at the time. Anyone with residential surveillance cameras in the area of the stabbing incident is also asked to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
