Alcohol Sales Considered At Adventure Bay

Windsor City Council will consider the sale of alcohol at Adventure Bay Family Water Park after reviewing proposals from interested providers.

Council approved issuing a request for proposal that includes the sale of alcohol at the snack bar as an option.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says council will have the debate in the future about whether the sale of alcohol makes sense in the facility.

"This facility is competing against Great Wolf Lodge, it's competing against Kalahari, it's competing against Wally World in London and other facilities like that that do offer alcohol and so all we're trying to do is consider the provision of some enhancement that may be of benefit," says Dilkens.

Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk was the only councillor opposed to issuing the RFP that included the possibility of selling alcohol.

"I think we ought to ask the frequent users and the families that utilize the Adventure Bay family water park whether this is, in fact, something that they want introduced," says Kusmierczyk.

Facility staff say they get asked on a regular basis about the sale of alcohol. But Kusmierczyk fears it could turn some families off.

"There are folks who will not bring their young ones, their 5, 6, or 7- year -olds to recreation facilities that serve alcohol," says Kusmierczyk.

Dilkens says the sale of alcohol does not discourage families from using the WFCU Centre or Roseland Golf Course so it should be no different at the water park.

It could be three to four months before RFPs are returned and debated around the council table.
