No Charges After SIU Investigation

Two Windsor police officers will not be facing any disciplinary action after the Special Investigations Unit investigated a serious motorcycle accident that happened last fall.

On September 23, 2015, three motorcycles sped away from a Windsor police cruiser in the area of Riverside Dr. and Campbell Ave. Two of the motorcycles later collided causing serious injuries to one of the drivers.

The SIU investigation determined the officers were well within their rights to follow the motorcycles and in no way endangered public safety in the operation of their duties.

“In the final analysis, I am satisfied that the care exercised by the officers in the course of this short-lived pursuit – no longer than about one and half kilometres – fell well within the limits prescribed by the criminal law. Accordingly, there are no reasonable grounds to proceed with charges in this case,” SIU Acting Director Joseph Martino was quoted in the SIU release.
