Intake for Federal Funding Starting Soon

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the province will launch the intake for two new federal programs shortly.

Starting in September they will be taking grant requests for the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund and the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund. The first fund has $560 million committed to Ontario over the next two years to support critical shovel-ready water, wastewater and stormwater projects. The public transit fund will be allocated based on transit ridership numbers.

Despite the fact there is no agreement in place between the province and Ottawa, Wynne is confident it will get done.

"I wanted to allay the concerns of some of the municipal leaders. They want to get shovels in the ground, they want to make sure that the announcement was coming soon so that there won't be a delay and they won't miss the opportunity to get those projects funded," says Wynne.

Wynne announced the intake date to around 1,200 delegates at the 2016 Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference at Caesars Windsor.
