Police Warn Of 'Hitman Scam'

The Windsor police are warning the public of a "hitman scam" after an elderly woman received a threatening email.

The writer of the email claimed to have the 76-year-old's personal information and that they were paid by someone to kill her. She was told to pay $3,000 to receive a tape of the transaction and another $5,000 to stop the job of killing her.

She was told not to contact the police, but did so after she showed the email to a friend.

The Windsor Police Financial Crime Branch remind the public to be vigilant to these generic threatening emails. They warn the email may contain basic personal information obtained through various tactics. They say the "hitman scam" has also come in the form of a text message in the past.
