LaSalle Festival Cancelled

The Uncorked wine and food festival scheduled for early August in LaSalle has been cancelled.

Organizer Ian France says he cancelled the event because of ballooning costs from the municipality .

“The invoice was upwards of $42,000 and that just put our operating budget completely out of whack and we just felt it was a fiscally responsible thing to step away now before we get even deeper,” says France.

LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya says the fees should not have come to a shock to the organizers as they were quoted in the agreement sent to them after council gave approval to the event in May. Antaya says his biggest concern with the festival was safety.

“Our responsibility and he knew this right off the top, is that everybody that enters into that park exits safely and that we have appropriate parking and a comprehensive safety plan that was supposed to be submitted to our administration and was not,” says Antaya.

France says he was prepared to follow through with the requests until he received the final bill.

“They many put loops and hoops in front of me that I’d have to jump through and this final one we’re choosing not to jump through it,” says France.

The festival was planned for August 5-7 along the LaSalle river front on Front Rd. All advanced tickets sold are being fully refunded.
