Local Songwriters Finalists In Songwriting Contest
There’s a good chance one of two local songwriters will share the stage with folk music legend Buffy Sainte-Marie at the upcoming Kingsville Folk Music Festival.
The festival’s released the list of finalists from its first ever Canada South Songwriting Contest and of the five, two are from Windsor-Essex; Sydney Matlock of Amherstburg and Karen Morand of Windsor.
The other finalists are Erika Kulnys of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Greg Botting of Petrolia and David Joyce of Newmarket.
Festival co-organizer Michelle Law says the contest attracted 50 entries from across Canada and the United States. Judges across the country picked the finalists.
Law says plans are in the works to expand it next year.
The finalists will be introduced at the festival Saturday, August 13 and take the stage later that evening.
The event is set to go August 12 – 14 in Lakeside Park in Kingsville.
