Alma St. Reconstruction Moving Forward

The reconstruction of Alma St. in Amherstburg will cost nearly $140,000 more than expected.

Council approved the tender with Coco Paving for $864,266.00 to reconstruct the road and shoulders between Howard Ave. and Walker Rd.

Manager of Engineering Todd Hewitt says the project is over budget because the lane width along the road is not consistent and the shoulder width is not up to current standards.

"Lane consistency is important for driver safety and driver recognition but certainly, the shoulder width was probably our biggest concern," says Hewitt.

The project is expected to begin in early to mid-August and be completed by the end of September. The road will be closed during some of the reconstruction.
