The group Water Wells First is demanding the resignation of Environment and Climate Change Minister Glen Murray over his ministry's response to cloudy, undrinkable well water in Dover Township.
The group has posted signs at Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change offices in Windsor, London, and Sarnia. At a protest in Dover Township, Water Wells First demanded the province place a moratorium on the installation of more wind turbines. It says the pile driving, and vibrations, when the wind turbines are in operation, have destabilized wells. It wants turbines also outfitted with vibration suppression and monitoring equipment.
Kevin Jakubec says the suggestion farmers give their livestock bottled water is unrealistic and unacceptable.
"[It's] hugely expensive and completely impractical," he says. "How are you supposed to use bottled water in the winter time? You can't do it."
He draws parallels to the Flint Water Crisis.
"There was government indifference. There was government incompetence."
Even filtered, the water isn't even passable.
"There's issues with the filtration systems not being able to cope with the amount of sentiment."
The group hasn't yet asked for a meeting with Glen Murray. Jakubec says the need to raise awareness of their concerns first.
He says he hasn't heard of any problems in Essex County yet but says it's a growing concern Chatham-Kent and Lambton Counties.
