Leaning Light Pole Taken Down At Tennis Courts

A large light pole at the Forest Glade tennis courts was discovered leaning and in need of repair.

Two weeks ago maintenance staff found a few anchor bolts at the base needed to be replaced.

"The bolts are made out of metal and metal corrodes over time," says Senior Manager of Facilities Tom Graziano. "It's just a natural wear and tear of parts over time."

City staff says the pole with a "slight lean" was never any danger to the public.

"The staff took a look at what was going on there and made a decision to actually take the pole down so it wouldn't create any danger," says Executive Director of Recreation and Culture Jan Wilson.

A fenced section with three tennis courts is closed while the repairs are being made.

The pole's concrete base needs to cure before it can be put back up. Curing is a process that increases the strength of the concrete by preventing the loss of moisture.

Officials say the pole should be back up some time in the middle of July.

The remaining light poles have been inspected and city officials say it doesn't appear they need any attention.
