Fighting for $15 and Fairness At Work

Community advocates and labour groups are looking to the Ontario government to make changes to workplace law to create fair and decent workplaces.

The Fight for $15 and Fairness is calling for reforms that include fair scheduling, regulating temp agencies and easier access to unions.

Over the last year, the Ministry of Labour has been engaging Ontarians looking for feedback on the changes needed to laws that regulate the workplace. Paul Chislett with the Windsor Workers' Education Centre is looking forward to their preliminary report due out this spring

"The one issue that I know is in the mix that's important is scheduling and that's directly related to the dignity of people at work," says Chislett.

Chislett says they will look at the report closely and continue to put pressure on the government to establish a fair working wage and fairness in the workplace.

"Working people are falling further and further behind. We hear that over and over and over again so we know it's true," says Chislett. "We're asking for something fair; we're asking for people to be treated with dignity in their workplaces."
