No Charges Expected In Fatal Dog Attack

No charges are expected in the case of a large dog fatally attacking a smaller canine.

Police were looking to speak with the owner of the large dog, but he just recently reached out to police.

Officers have learned a family member was walking what is believed to be a Bull Masstiff-mix weighing between 120-150lbs.

They weren't aware the injuries to the smaller dog were so severe, police say.

The incident happened Tuesday on Giles Blvd. W when the two were walking their dogs. The owners were able to pull the dogs apart, but the small dog sustained serious bite-related injuries and died at an animal hospital.

Police say there doesn't appear to be any criminality in this case and the family member tried everything they could to pull the dog away.

At this point police say it's unclear if both dogs were on a leash. If they were, police are looking into the possibility of one or both dogs coming loose.

The information has now been handed over to the city`s bylaw department.
