Windsor-West MP Brian Masse's congratulating the City of Detroit for denying an application to store petcoke on the banks of the Detroit River.
"This decision acknowledges the human connection to the environment and places the well being and quality of life for people on both sides of the Canada-United States border at the forefront of the governing process," says Masse in a Facebook post.
Masse wrote Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan a letter last month pleading Windsor's case to reject the application from Waterfront Terminal Holdings.
The storage of petcoke in 2013 sparked protests on the Windsor side of the river and raised concerns about the health implications of coke breeze.
