Bridge Company Buys Former High School

The company that owns the Ambassador Bridge now owns Forster Secondary School in west Windsor.

The Greater Essex County District School Board closed the school in June 2014. Spokesman Scott Scantlebury says the school board sold it to Progressive Waste Solutions for "fair market value" in a deal that closed just last month. Progressive Waste Solutions, in turn, sold it to the Canadian Transit Company.

The Canadian Transit Company plans to make the school available to community groups and hopes to announce a tenant soon.

"We're not going to charge any rent," says the director of security and Canadian government relations, Stan Korosec. "What we'll just do is ask that they pay for their fair share of whatever utilities they use and make sure they have insurance."

It’s also bought the former BFI property on Felix Ave. and Korosec says that property will be used to house bridge maintenance vehicles.
