UPDATE: Man Charged After Child Critically Injured In Fire

A seven-year-old has been airlifted to hospital and a 43-year-old man has been charged after allegedly trying to burn down a Windsor home.

The Windsor Police Service says on Saturday around 11:45pm, firefighters and police officers attended the blaze at 1680 Balfour Blvd. and found a mother and daughter suffering from burns to their bodies.

The seven-year-old daughter had serious burns to her face, torso, hands and feet. She has since been airlifted to a London hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The mother had serious burns to one of her hands. She has been treated for her injuries but will require further treatment.

An 11-month-old girl who was also in the home, was not hurt in the fire

Kenneth Kormendy, a 43-year-old Windsor man, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, arson/fire with disregard for human life, and two counts of arson/fire causing bodily harm.

Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office are on the scene and fire prevention officer with Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, John Lee says damage is around $125,000.
