Government Investigating Scabies At Aspen Lakes

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is finishing its investigation after scabies was found in a Windsor nursing home. The ministry says two confirmed cases of scabies were treated last week at Aspen Lakes Nursing Home. Others showed symptoms, but tests came back negative. The home's general manager Dana Houle says all the necessary precautions are being taken. "We chose to treat all of our residents living in that neighbourhood in a proactive way," she says. "We offered treatment to our team members working in that neighbourhood. We've also brought in professional cleaners." Scabies is a highly contagious, very itchy skin disease. Protective equipment was also offered to staff and family members in the affected area. About a month ago Aspen Lakes was also dealing with bed bugs, which they say has been completely eradicated. Houle says Aspen Lakes is slowly getting back to normal and is "on the up and up."
