Marathon Shuts Down Tunnel, Riverside Dr. W

If you are crossing the border Sunday morning, it may be congested on the Ambassador Bridge because of the 38th annual Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon.

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel is closed between 6:45am and 10:30am Sunday.

Executive race director Barbara Bennage says 27,684 people are signed up to run either the marathon, half-marathon or other events associated with the annual fall favourite. Of those, 2,150 of the participates are Canadians from nine provinces.

Bennage also says the Detroit-Windsor event is unique.

"There are other international marathons or runs, but we cross borders twice."

Michael Andersen of Walled Lake, Michigan won last year's marathon with a time of 2:24:54.

Riverside Dr. W from the Ambassador Bridge to Goyeau Ave., Goyeau from Riverside Dr. E to Park St. E will be closed during the marathon.
