Trustees To Decide Fate Of Schools

Trustees with the Greater Essex County District School Board will decide tonight the fate of two area high schools.

The recommendation from board administration is to close Harrow District High School and Western Secondary School and consolidate the students into other schools.

Director of Education Todd Awender says Harrow students would go two different places.

"The students from grades nine to 12 would consolidate with the Kingsville District High School. The grade 7 and 8 students would consolidate back into the Harrow Public School."

Western students would be split between General Amherst, Kingsville and Belle River.

Awender says the moves would put capacity at Harrow Public School very close to 100% and Kingsville District High School's capacity would be about 90% with the changes. He says that would give them their best case for a new JK to grade 12 school in Kingsville.

If approved tonight, the changes would come into effect at the beginning of the next school year.

Tonight's meeting is at 7pm at the St. Clair College Sportplex.
