Spits Goalie Clears Waivers

Windsor Spitfires goaltender Brendan Johnston has cleared Ontario Hockey League waivers.

The 18-year old Port Lambton native and former Chatham Maroon played 37 games with the Spitfires during the 2014-15 season, posting a 4.72 goals against average and an .870 save percentage.

Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel says Johnston was the odd man out with four goaltenders on the team.

"We tried to accommodate him with a trade, (but) it didn't happen right now. We were able to put him on waivers, which only helps him get to a junior B spot or a Tier 2 junior A spot," he says. "You can't really work it with four goalies, so it's something that happened, but hopefully he can regain his touch and we'll see him back here someday soon."

The three signed goaltenders remaining on the hockey club's active roster are 16-year-old Michael DiPietro, 18-year-old Mario Culina and 20-year-old Michael Giugovaz.
