Province Asked To Step Up Over Todd Ln

The cost of rebuilding Todd Ln. in LaSalle is going up, and the town's mayor hopes the province changes it's mind and pays up.

After delaying the project two years because of construction on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Pkwy., work on Todd Ln. between Malden Rd. and Canada St. in June. A second phase of the project is expected to start soon.

"Originally we thought the entire project would be anywhere from $5.5-million to $6-million," says Mayor Ken Antaya. "Now, it looks like it's going to be upwards of $9-million to $10-million."

He says the road was in great shape before construction on the parkway, but it's in terrible shape now.

So far, Antaya says the province hasn't been too receptive.

"They said that 'we've done everything as planned, in fact, we probably fast-tracked it. We disrupted traffic in the area as little as possible. It's our opinion that we've done nothing wrong. Therefore, there will be no money available', and that's the end of it."

Antaya says the town will take whatever it can get, but the project will move ahead no matter what the province eventually decides. However, the added cost will delay other capital projects in the town.
