The Bank Theatre in Leamington is getting a $162,000 grant from the federal government’s Canada 150 program.

The money will go towards continued interior renovations.

Board Vice President Ursula Tiessen feels it’s a huge milestone in the project.

“It finally feels like the project is real,” says Tiessen. “Up to now it’s felt a little bit like we weren’t sure it was really ever going to happen, but now with the funding coming in place it solidifies that this is a need for our community.”

Tiessen says the grant covers about 30% of the money needed to finish renovating the performance space and adds the work is expected to wrap in 2016 or 2017, in conjunction with Canada’s 150th birthday.
