Members of the Great Canadian Flag Project are drumming up support for a giant Canadian flag on Windsor's riverfront.
They're handing out pins and postcards to those they meet on Ouellette Ave. Friday and Michael Beale says they're getting a positive reaction. "In ten minutes, I think we've talked to three or four folks; it's been absolutely extraordinary."
The total project will cost $330,000, and the group has already raised $140,000. The goal is $200,000.
"The balance, the $130,000, is our gift for replacement flags and for mending the flag," says Beale. "Of course, in the wintertime, we'll be flying a smaller flag because of the sustained winds."
Once the group reaches its fundraising goal, Beale says work will get underway to erect the flag pole and hoist the flag.
