Problematic County Road Reducing Speed

With complaints of people driving 40 km/h above the posted speed limit, one narrow stretch of county road is being reduced. Essex council has agreed to slow the eastbound lanes of Concession Rd. 4 between McCormick Rd. and Arner Townline to 60 km/h down from 80 km/h. Councillor Larry Snively lives on the street and has had several complaints. "I've witnessed a few close calls. Actually I seen one woman that was forced off the road," he says. "I had a lot of residents tell me they won't even walk or jog on that road anymore." Snively says the road is often used by drivers going between different municipalities such as Amherstburg, Kingsville and Leamington. "Traffic has increased by probably at least 30-40% in the last few years," Snively says. "It's narrow. The traffic moves fast on that road, but a lot of times you'll see people doing 110 km/h, 120 km/h." The speed reduction must first be rubber stamped at an upcoming council meeting before the signs are changed.
