West End Work In Progress

Windsor's west end may not be turning a corner just yet, but one city councillor says good things are happening to bring it back. A new 60,000 sq ft medical centre is planned for 1100 University Ave. W. Ward 2 Councillor John Elliott says the west end is on the rebound. "We get a grocery store back. Now we're looking at getting healthcare down there and that attracts business and people may get the feeling that you know what, maybe that's not a bad end of town to invest in," says Elliott. Six physicians will be moving in once the facility opens in the Spring of next year. Unlike many other medical buildings in town, parking will be free. Development partner Van Niforos says this project is 20 years in the making. It will include an urgent care centre, pharmacy, clinic and a lab among other things. "It was pointed out to us that a medical clinic was a must in that area," says Niforos. "There's 45,000 to 50,000 people in that area (and) it's very under serviced." The overall plan will also see a second Penalty Box restaurant on the site.
