FINA Mascot Gets A Name

The mascot for the 2016 FINA Windsor World Swimming Championship is going to be named Splasher.

Mayor Drew Dilkens announced today 12-year-old Julianne Pella from St. Gabriel's Catholic Elementary School won the mascot naming contest with her submission beating out over 200 others.

Pella wins an iPad-mini and four passes to the opening ceremonies of the FINA championships being held in Windsor December 7-11 next year. Pella's class is also getting a visit from Splasher and a Subway lunch.

“There were many, many fantastic entries in this contest, and everyone who participated deserves a round of applause,” says Dilkens in a news release. “After much consideration, we decided that Splasher best captured the spirit of the world-class aquatic event coming to our community.”

Splasher will be at an event at Adventure Bay Family Water Park on July 25 as part of Drowning Prevention Week and will be available to meet in person.
