Windsor Starts 20-Year Plan

The city is looking ahead 20 years and planning for the future with three main objectives -- more jobs, improving the city's image and ensuring population growth.

Report author John Matheson says we need to exploit our location. "You are next to a complicated, but frankly fascinating neighbour in Detroit and a neighbour (that) is on the rise," he says.

In order to grow, Matheson says more focus needs to be put on job creation. "City council and staff making all municipal decisions with an economic development lens, now that would be a new focus," he says. "That would be doing something different as opposed to the way you've always done things."

Maybe almost equally as important is Windsor's reputation, which Matheson is key to success. "Whether it be the decision to locate new investment, or whether it be attracting new folks to come live here, or whether it be about keeping your own children and getting them to stay here," says Matheson.

The 20-year-plan is still in its very early stages and will eventually be up for public input.
