New City Hall Price Climbs

The price tag on Windsor's new city hall project is up to nearly $40-million.

That's $4.6-million more than what had been allocated from available funds following the last few Windsor budgets.

CAO Helga Reidel says the building's unique features have caused the price to creep up. "The council chamber, the one-stop shopping customer service space that we wanted on the first floor, and of course making it reasonably attractive and suitable to the Charles Clark Square area."

At Monday night's meeting, council voted against a $1.2-million extension to the upper floors of the building. That would have simply allowed for more office space and possibly accounted for future growth.

City administrators will now design tender documents which will come before council for approval in December.

The price of the project could still change once tender bids come in early next year.
