Windsor’s new city hall project could cost about $4-million more than what’s been budgeted for.

According to a cost consultant hired by the city, the overall job could cost $39-million once tendered.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says about 40 or 50 items have already been removed from the design just to get it down to this cost, without hindering the building’s functionality.  “If you recall the old design, there were pillars all the way around the outside of the building.  Basically, what we’ve done is enclosed some of those pillars.  So you have a small portion that would be canopied on the exterior of the building, but for the most part, the majority of the exterior of the building is now enclosed.”

Administration’s recommendation will be before city council in June.  At that time, council will either decide to move it forward or ask that staff come back with a cheaper recommendation.
